About the author

Fritz Schilling was born on 2 January 1891 in Berlin. With the beginning of the First World War he was conscripted as telecommunications engineer. He was stationed in East Prussia. His five notebooks contain regular entries in pencil, very factual observations without much showing of emotions. They witness how much the daily routine instead of the bigger events shape life at war. May be these diaries in their recording of the war routine and their plain style can express some other kind of the horrors of WW1.
